Membership

Applications are OPEN! Priority will be given to folks who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and/or QT (Queer, Trans). Our previous application did not include a BIPOC/QT selection; if you would like to reapply with this new option, we will make note.

How much does membership cost?

Membership costs $175 per month and includes 1 bag clay per month and unlimited firings.*

*Work that measures over 12″ in any direction will be subject to firings fees which are 15 cents per ounce.

Memberships require a 3 month minimum commitment, but we really hope you stay longer!

What kind of experience do I need?

We are looking for a minimum of 2 years working with clay on a semi-regular basis, or 6 classes.

Candidates must understand fundamental clay properties, construction methods, and glaze application.

When do I have access to the studio?

What is included in the cost?

  • dedicated shelf storage
  • 2 large communal work tables
  • access to all communal tools
  • access to Shimpo VL-Lite wheels
  • North Star extruder + lots of dies
  • use of 10+ studio glazes
  • unlimited firings of work under 12″
  • curated library of books on art, design, and ceramics

Do I have to use the studio clay, or can I use my own?

The studio uses Laguna 55 which you may purchase for $30 per 25 pound bag. If you’re partial to a particular clay body*, that’s cool too, but you’re responsible for reclaiming and storing it on your shelf.

*The one exception to this being red clay, which the studio can’t accommodate.

Can I operate the kiln myself?

Liz Welch is the resident kiln manager and is in charge of all kiln firings.
We will do our best to fire the work in a timely manner, but be aware that certain pieces may jump the line, or need to wait until the next firing depending on size and shape. It’s Tetris, ya’ll!

Can I use my own glazes?

We allow most commercial cone 6 glazes except the following:

  • Ritual glazes
  • Special effects glazes including crackle, crawl, bead, gloop, lava, flux, etc.
  • Wonderglaze

We LOVE the following commercial glazes:

  • Amaco
    • ‘Velvet Underglaze’
    • ‘Potter’s Choice’
    • ‘Cone 6 Celadon’
    • ‘Cone 6 Satin Matte’
  • Mayco ‘Stroke and Coat’
  • Speedball
    • ‘Underglaze’
  • Coyote
    • ‘Archie’s Cone 6’

*We do not allow any glazes that are unmarked, mixed at home or any other studio.

Do I need to bring my own tools?

There are plenty of communal tools available for general use. If you have specific tools you like to use, please bring them.

Can I operate my business out of the studio?

The short answer? Nope.
Here’s the long answer: Anyhow was founded out of a desire to serve beginners and intermediate artists, and we are in service to that mission. I wish we had the square footage to accommodate every industrious entrepreneur but that is not the case. Day to day business operations such as large scale production work, and packing and shipping are simply more than the studio can handle.

I have my own wheel, can I bring it to the studio?

We don’t have the space for any additional wheels at this time.
The studio is equipped with 7 Shimpo VL-Lite wheels that are available to all members.

OMG this sounds perfect, I am so excited! What's next?
