Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL INFO

Covid-19 Protocols

Anyhow Studio requires that masks are worn for the duration of one’s time within the studio space; surgical/N95/KN95 masks are preferred as cloth masks are ineffective in preventing the spread of the Omicron variant.

If you are feeling sick, have symptoms, have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for Covid-19, or have tested positive for Covid-19 yourself, please do not come into the studio. We all must do our best to keep ourselves and each other safe. In the event that any of these things occur please email Anyhow Studio and we can figure out next steps from there!

Where is Anyhow Studio?

Anyhow Studio is located at 25 Acorn Street. There is a sign next to 3 Acorn Street that will direct you through the alley, and to the right. The entrance is the glass door at the far right of the brick mill building.

Where should I park?

Parking is available in the lot directly outside of the studio. Overflow parking is located in the lot on Acorn Street directly across from the alley entrance.

What should I wear to class?

Clay is messy! Wear comfortable clothing you won’t mind getting dirty with clay or glaze. Most ceramic materials will come out in the wash, but cannot guarantee that your clothing won’t get damaged.

Do I need any art or clay experience to take a class?

No experience is necessary, unless otherwise specified in the class description.

Is the studio wheelchair accessible?

Unfortunately not. Although the studio is located on the first floor, there is a small step. We will do absolutely everything we can to accommodate those who require additional assistance getting into the building. Please email hi@anyhowstudioprovidence.com for additional questions and/or requests.

We know that this is not ideal, and apologize for the extra steps that need to be executed in order to take a class with us.

CLASSES

How much does a class cost?

Our standard 8 week class is $400. We do our absolute best to offer the most accessible prices, but understand the very real financial constraints many of our students face.

One way we can help is through our payment plan which allows you to pay 50% at checkout and the remaining 50% 4 weeks later.

If enrollment is still a financial hardship, please email us at hi@anyhowstudioprovidence for other options.

How long do classes run?

Our standard class runs 8 weeks.

When are you listing more classes?

We offer classes during 4 terms: spring, winter, summer and fall. We aim to list classes at least 3 weeks before the start date to give folks plenty of time to sign up.

The best way to find out when the next class term starts is to sign up for our mailing list at the bottom of the page.

Are materials included in the class price?

The workshop price includes 25 lbs. of clay, glazes, and all firings. Additional clay is available for purchase for $20 per 25 lb. bag.

Do you provide storage to leave works in progress in between classes/drop-in hours?

Yes! All students enrolled in a class, or accessing the studio via drop-in hours will have space to leave work throughout the duration of class, or as long as they are actively using the studio. Work that has been left 6 weeks after the last date visited will be reclaimed (thrown out).

What if I need to miss a class?

No problem! I mean, we will miss you, but life happens and sometimes you can’t make it to your pottery class.

ANYHOW STUDIO CLASS ABSENCE POLICY

During each 8-week course, enrolled students are allowed up to two class absences, which may be made-up during an open studio drop-in slot. The fee is waived using a promotional discount code which can be redeemed up to twice per student. Any additional absences from class time are at the discretion of the student and Anyhow Studio is not responsible for providing additional instruction, pending circumstances outside of the student’s control.

Note: Open Studio time is monitored by a mix of Anyhow instructors and staff with clay experience, but is an independently-guided work time; monitors are available for assistance but are not required to teach or fill you in on what was missed in class.

DROP-INS

Are drop-ins a good fit for me?

Visit our Drop-In Journey page to find out!

How much do drop-ins cost?

$35 per 3 hour session.

You may also add a bag of clay at the time of checkout, as
needed. Clay is $30 for a 25lb bag.

How do I book an open studio drop-in?

On our website, hover over “What we offer” and click the drop down “Register for open studios”. From this page, select today’s date to see available slots and create an account with Sawyer to book. Please note:
you must book at least 24 hours in advance!

Are glazes and firing included in the drop-in price? *NEW INFO*

We have updated our drop-in firing policies as of 1/31/22.
Firings are NOT included in the drop-in price. If you wish to fire work you make during a drop-in session, the fee is 15¢ per ounce and includes bisque fire, studio glazes, and glaze fire.
Drop-in prices are the same whether you are coming in to work on the wheel, hand build, or glaze.

Do I need to be enrolled in a class to book open studio time?

Nope! But take note: open studio is self directed. Please come prepared to work independently. If you do have a question, a studio monitor will always be present to help.

What if I need to cancel my drop-in?

All good! Email hi@anyhowstudioprovidence.com as soon as you can.

KILN ACCESS

I made my own work somewhere else. Can you fire it in your kiln?

Probably! There are some exceptions, but we do offer kiln access. Read more here.

GETTING INVOLVED

Are you looking for instructors?

Anyhow is always looking for instructors! Submit a course proposal HERE.

Are there any internship opportunities?

The intern position is currently filled. Please sign up for our email list, so that you’ll be notified when new positions become available.

Are you accepting members?

Yes! Membership applications are located here

MISC.

Do you accept donations?

Absolutely! If you have tools, equipment, materials, etc. that are in good condition and/or working order, shoot us an email at hi@anyhowstudioprovidence.com with the subject line DONATION. Please include a list of the items, and any relevant photos.

Do you host pottery parties?

Anyhow Studio does not offer one-time group throwing events. Making ceramics is a slooooow, multistep process, which does not easily lend itself to a one-time event.

Picture signing up for a cooking class. You arrive, put on your apron, chop a bunch of onions and garlic, clean up, and then leave. Sure, you practiced your knife skills, and hung out with some cool folks, but where’s the risotto?

A one-time pottery class is similar. In order to experience the entire process, I recommend at least 6 weeks of instruction. Instead of one night, consider gifting an open studio drop-in, or gift card for your dear one to take a class with us.
