I come to the open studio drop-ins, is this page for me?

Yes! Read on, friend.

How much does it cost?

The price of fired work is calculated at a rate of 15¢ per ounce. This includes both bisque and glaze firings as well as studio glazes.

As a way to gauge how much you may be spending, a mug that weighs 13.2 oz. will cost $1.98 to fire.

Do I need to be enrolled in a class to purchase kiln space?

Nope! Anyone can rent kiln space.

Does the kiln rental include glazes?

Sure does!

Can I use my own glazes?

You must use Anyhow Studio’s glazes for safety reasons. These are reliable glazes that have been tried and tested and work well at the temperatures we fire to.

We cannot fire mixed glazes, but we will consider commercial glazes as long as they are in the original container you bought them in.

Can I use my own clay?

As long as you can guarantee with 100% certainty that your clay is cone 6, sure! We will ask you the name or brand of the clay to verify. If you do not have this information, we cannot fire your work.

Can I fire to Cone 5 or any other temperature?

No. Anyhow Studio exclusively fires bisque work to cone 06 and glaze work to cone 6. However, if you are looking for alternative firing methods, check out Jamestown Art Center. They host several soda firings a year and you do not need to be a member there to participate.

Do I need to know how to use the kiln?

You do not need to know how to use the kiln in order to rent space in the kiln. An Anyhow Studio staff member is responsible for all kiln operations. Sit back, relax, let us do the work!

How will I know when my work is ready?

An Anyhow Studio staff member will email you when your work is ready to be picked up, or glazed. We are not currently on a regular firing schedule, so please be patient as students make enough work to fill up our kiln!
